April was declared Donate Life Month in Jackson and Amador County by the Jackson City Council and Amador County Board of Supervisors this week.Recieving the proclamations were Judy Regnier, a volunteer for Golden State Donor Services of Sacramento, and Trish Werner, manager of the Jackson office of the Department of Motor Vehicles.
Regnier is also the liaison for the local DMV concerning organ and tissue donation. Regnier is a local pioneer resident and retired registered nurse who 11 years ago received a transplanted liver from Stanford Medical Center from an anonymous donor in Arizona.
She shared her personal concern and the urgent need for donated organs and tissues across the national but especially in California. " I would not be here to be appreciating life without my donor family's wonderful gift of life," Regnier said. "For me, it's about giving back. Here in the Amador County area, we have been able to more than double our registration of donors in the past year, but it is still not enough. I personally know of several Amador residents who tragically died while waiting just this year. This is about saving lives."
