NATIONAL DONATE LIFE MONTH MEDIA CONFERENCE HELD BY MICHIGAN'S SECRETARY OF STATE, APRIL 8, 2009

Michigan's Secretary of State, Terri Lynn Land held a media conference at Spectrum Health's Butterworth Hospital on April 8, 2009 to celebrate National Donate Life Month, and to recognize Spectrum Health outstanding support to Organ and Tissue Donation, and to applaud the hundreds of "Buddy Volunteers" staffing information tables inside the Secretary of State branch offices.

1. Register with your State's organ & tissue donor registry. To learn how: www.organdonor.gov
2. Speak with your family, friends and colleagues about your decision to be a donor.
3. Encourage your workplace ,church, schools, neighborhood organizations, and city to adopt donation as a mission.
4. Encourage your elected officials to support donation legislation.
5. Speak at your local High School, College or University. Ask them to participate in the National Donation Campus Challenge. www.organdonor/campus.gov
6. Participate in events sponsored by your local organ procurement organization.
ONE organ donor can SAVE the lives of up to 8 people
ONE tissue donor can SAVE / ENHANCE the lives of up to 50 people. Help our returning solders from Iraq and Afghanistan who require tissue for reconstructive surgery
