A BIG THANK YOU to Michelle Segovia & a bunch of volunteers from Texas Organ Sharing Alliance (some pictured here), as well as Texas Transplant Society, Central Texas Blood and Tissue Center, and others. A donor registration drive was held at the Capitol on March 26, 2009 from 10am - 1pm, and volunteers also found time to call on Senatror Zaffirini's office and Representative Zerwas' office to support SB 1803 and HB 2027, respectively.
We were glad to have Bryan Rollins on hand - Bryan is the new public member of the Texas Organ, Tissue, and Eye Donor Council, and he is a kidney recipient. Also on hand was lung transplant recipient David Davenport, who directs the Capitol Area Food Bank and Lemuel Bradshaw, heart recipient. The donor family members, recipients and staff on hand were excited to promote the Donate Life Registry. A follow up event is being planned in conjunction with the hearing on SB1083, which is the bill by Sen. Zaffirini to enhance the effectiveness of the donor registry.
