DONATE LIFE AND ASTELLAS PHARMA US ENGAGES BASEBALL FANS ABOUT ORGAN DONATION

Astellas Pharma US in partnership with Donate Life has recently launched "Step up to the Plate - Register to Donate", a national campaign to draw attention to the critical need for organ and tissue donors. The program takes place during Major League Baseball and Minor League Baseball games to spread the message. It also recognizes the important contribution by the transplant and donation communities such as recipients, donors, physicians, surgeons, organ procurement organizations and transplant centers.

"Step up to the Plate- Register to Donate" will visit 11 ballparks during the 2009 baseball season and will include a pre-game ceremony featuring local members of the donation community, a "first pitch" by a transplant recipient and between innings contests. Also the first 500 entrants to each ballpark will receive special free giveaways.

So honestly folks, we can all emulate this initiative by taking this idea and create a similar program with our local high school or university and college baseball, basket ball, gymnastics, football, soccer leagues. I am sure there are other events out there - perhaps someone would like to comment and add their thoughts?
