Donate Life Organ Donation Blog has been reporting on plans for the the First World Day/European Day of Organ Donation that will formally take place in Berlin, Germany on October 4, 2009 as part of the 2009 Organ Donation Congress and ISODP Meeting. The motto for the event is: “You have the power to donate life – be an organ donor.” The main attraction for this event in Berlin is an open air concert in front of the Brandenburg Gate featuring famous European musicians and bands where hundreds of thousands are expected to attend. The musical program will be interspersed with short live talks, interviews and video statements by experts, transplant recipients, donor families and celebrities.
One such video statement will come from Alex O’Loughlin who plays a transplant surgeon on the new CBS medical drama Three Rivers. Here is the text of his statement which has already been recorded. “Hi, this is Alex O’Loughlin with CBS’ new medical drama Three Rivers. I am honored to play a transplant surgeon on the show which premieres tonight in the states and I want to congratulate you on the work you are doing to raise awareness of organ donation worldwide and save lives through donation and transplantation. I wish I could be there with you celebrating World Donation Day and I am happy to play a small role in what you are doing to encourage the world to Donate Life. Thank you.” You may have noticed that World Donation Day is occurring on the same day as the premier of Three Rivers, October 4.
Donate Life Hollywood is very excited about Alex’s personal commitment to helping increase organ, eye and tissue donation as they have been working very closely with the cast and writer of the show which included personalized education.
