An average of 18 people die in a day because there aren't enough transplant organs.
That's according to the donor alliance. It's Organ Donor Awareness Week and county commissioners made a point Tuesday to stress the importance of organ donations. They say eight lives can be saved by one organ donor.
11 News spoke with 10-year-old Garrett Ross. Garrett was born with a congenital heart defect. He was only given four months to live but is alive today thanks to organ donors.
Ross received a heart transplant that saved his life.
Nearly 2,000 organs are needed in Colorado right now.
