DONATE LIFE ORGAN DONATION AWARENESS-CONNECTICUT-DONATE LIFE ANNUAL POSTER CONTEST FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

DONATE LIFE CONNECTICUT'S ANNUAL POSTER CONTEST IS AN EXCELLENT IDEA THAT CAN BE USED BY OTHER DONATE LIFE ORGANIZATIONS TO REACH HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN RAISING AWARENESS FOR ORGAN DONATION. ALTHOUGH THE 2010 CONTEST IS ALREADY PASSED, WE DECIDED TO POST THE ARTICLE TO SHARE THIS IDEA WITH OTHERS SEEKING OPPORTUNITIES TO PROMOTE DONATION. GREAT WORK DONATE LIFE CONNECTICUT!

Annual Poster Contest for High School Students
Past contest winners:

During the past nineteen years, thousands of high school students have participated in the Annual Poster Art Contest sponsored by Donate Life Connecticut. 2010 is our 20th year!

The contest is intended to raise awareness about organ and tissue donation, and the importance of becoming a REGISTERED donor in the state of Connecticut. Each year, awards are given to the first, second and third place winners. In addition, a winner from each school is selected. A final award, called The Tony Award, is given to an artist in memory of a young boy who died while waiting for a transplant.

Donation and transplantation can affect anyone. Donation and transplantation are important issues regarding life, health, and well being. In Connecticut, all 16 and 17 year olds will be asked if they would like to register to donate when they apply for a driver’s license. Encouraging students to create a poster will increase their understanding of donation and the donor registry, and provide them with the information to make an educated decision to share with their families.

In collaboration with the Annual Poster Art Contest, Donate Life Connecticut offers high school teachers the opportunity to invite professionals from the organ and tissue donation field into the classroom for an in-house presentation designed to educate students about a national health crisis: the shortage of organs for transplantation. The program is designed to offer timely and comprehensive information on donation and the role that each individual can play in saving or improving the quality of life of others. It features current statistics about donation and transplantation, a description of the process, information about the registry, and real-life stories from donor families and transplant recipients. To schedule a presentation, please contact Kari Mull, Program Manager, Donate Life Connecticut, at 203-494-1455 or kari.mull@gmail.com.
