ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Life Alaska Donor Services unveiled artwork Tuesday meant to encourage people to become organ donors.
More than 100,000 people are in need of an organ transplant nationwide and as many as 20 people die each day waiting for help.
Art students at Chugiak and Eagle River high schools made the decorative tiles. Their message is "have a heart to give a heart."
"I would like Alaskans to know that there is a need out there for lifesaving organ transplants, and there are Alaskans out there right now who need transplants -- just to raise awareness," said Glenn Borkoski with Life Alaska Donor Services.
The students made the tiles several years ago, but they now have a home at Eagle River Town Center.
