April is, National Donate Life Month and Donate Colorado Month. This is the month to make a call to action and this month may it serve as a reminder, to take 10 minutes and fill out a card on donating your organs and tissues. Each state has an organ and tissue donation registry. Colorado has a state registry with an interesting program or contest starting up. First, let me let you know, that you can set up your organ and tissue donation wish through the DMV when you obtain or update your drivers license. The information is uploaded to the registry every 24 hours. You may also obtain a Donors Card by download the information and printing it out on your computer.
Since January 1st of this year, Colorado has a new speciality plate to encourage us to donate our organs and tissues. Additionally, there is currently a contest to encourage us to campaign for getting the word out regarding the plates and for organ and tissue donation. The campaign is called “Show us Your Heart”. To enter the contest see the rules and guidelines on the blue hyperlink. The important information to mention is you can win free license plates by entering the contest. You will need to put in a U Tube worthy of promoting organ and tissue donation. I do not have a personal story to share of a saved loved one but many people will; the users of the organs and tissue donation can share their story, spread the word, and proudly wear the new Colorado Specialty Plates by sharing their story. If you prefer to buy the plates you may do so at your DMV center for a $50.00 one-time fee.
Why donate your organs and tissues? Because it saves lives. Granted, some people do have serious reasons for not donating whether it be religious or whatever personal or health reason you have for not doing so, I do respect that. But… most of us “mean to take care of this” but forget when we are at DMV or never get the card. Think about, the many lives that are saved and afforded new or renewed quality of life by receiving those organs and tissues. On The American Transplant site there are many stories of success and quality of life improvement stories we can read. The one that stands out, to me, is of Stephanie who is waiting for a kidney donation. I can tell you, it does my heart good, knowing it could possibly be me, who saves her life or the life of someone else when I am done with my organs and tissues….. who knows… maybe it will be you… could it be you… ? It might be you if you —-? sign up today, please…
