Mayor donates kidney to Facebook friend

East Haven, Connecticut (WTNH) - East Haven mayor April Capone Almon is recovering after undergoing surgery to donate one of her kidneys to help save the life of a Facebook friend.
The mayor told WVIT-TV that she did not know the man very well, but became involved after reading a post he put on the social networking site last August. The man wrote that all his family and friends had been tested and could not donate.
The recipient, who does not want his name used, is in his 40s and his kidneys were failing as a result of diabetes.
The mayor says she decided to be tested, and came up as a match. They underwent the transplant surgery two weeks ago, and Capone Almon says the man is now doing well.
