NATIONAL DONATE LIFE MONTH-ILLINOIS-RUSH UNIVERSITY-ONE ORGAN DONOR - UP TO 8 LIVES SAVED!

One organ donor – up to 8 lives saved!

Are you an organ and tissue donor? As of March 2010, more than 106,000 people in the U.S. are on the waiting list for an organ transplant; 600 are patients of Rush.

Just one organ donor can save the lives of as many as eight people, and one tissue donor can enhance the lives of as many as 50 people.

April is National Donate Life Month. Rush is celebrating the tremendous generosity of those who have saved lives by becoming an organ, tissue, marrow and blood donor and encouraging more people to sign up to be donors.

Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White will kick-off the month with a visit to Rush on Monday, April 5 to salute the organ donation team. Additional activities include organ donation registration drives on April 8 and 15; a Donate Life presentation by liver transplant recipient Michelle Orive on April 20; and the Rush Annual Donor Family Celebration on April 30.
