Source: Independence BulletinINDEPENDENCE — April has been designated as “Donate Life Month.” Donate Life Month is a national observance period for all Americans to consider organ, tissue, eye, blood and bone marrow donation. To show support for the Iowa Donor Network and raise awareness of all potential donors, Buchanan County Health Center will be flying a Donate Life Flag all month long, according to Administrator Bob Richard.
“I am encouraging all hospital employees, my friends, my business associates and my neighbors to participate in Iowa’s Give 5, Save Lives campaign,” Richard explained. “This important campaign encourages all businesses in Iowa to allow every employee the first five minutes of their workday to register as an organ, tissue and/or eye donor online. Iowa is one of the leading states in the nation in the percentage of our population who have registered as organ and tissue donors.”
While almost one-third of eligible Iowans are organ donors, some 484 Iowans are on the waiting list today to receive a new kidney.
