The City of Loma Linda proclaimed April 2010 as DMV Donate Life Month at
its April 13 City Council meeting.

Accepting the Proclamation were Dave
Hollon, Donate Life Ambassador and Julie Humeston, Director of Referral
Development, Loma Linda University Medical Center (LLUMC)
Transplantation Institute.

Loma Linda Mayor Stan Brauer, an anesthesiologist at LLUMC, also
highlighted the continuing need for blood donations in his presentation
remarks. Councilmember Floyd Peterson, an Assistant Professor of
Biostatistics at Loma Linda University Schools of Public Health,
Medicine, and Nursing, underscored the growing need for donors and
shared experiences related to his daughter and son-in-law, both of whom
are in management with One Legacy, the organ procurement organization(OPO) for seven Southern California counties.

Hollon has received two transplants at Loma Linda, a kidney transplant
in 2004 and a pancreas transplant in 2006. His live kidney donor was
his brother Mike; his deceased donor pancreas was donated by Lacey
Rodia, a 16 year old who registered as a donor at the DMV when securing
her driver's license.
LLUMC also began flying the Donate Life Flag this week and is sponsoring
a donor registration freeway billboard, displayed near the hospital
along Interstate 10.
