Michigan Organ Donor Registry continues to grow

LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land is applauding the more than 25,000 residents who added their names to the Michigan Organ Donor Registry during April.
Land says Gift of Life Michigan, Michigan Eye-Bank and Hospice of Michigan have joined her in celebrating April as Donate Life Month.
Land says in a statement Wednesday that nearly 400 "Buddies" have visited Secretary of State branch offices this month. Buddies are often organ recipients or relatives of donors who speak about the importance of becoming an organ donor.
Nearly 3,000 Michigan residents are in need of a lifesaving organ transplant. Land says one donor can help nearly 50 people.
Residents can join the registry online or by visiting Secretary of State branch offices. They will then receive a heart sticker for their driver's license or identification card.
