America Takes it Up a Notch
Wednesday, April 14, 2010
During the month of April, the nation focuses on those who have been touched by organ, tissue and eye donation and transplantation. Their amazing stories are inspirational and a call to action for everyone to become a registered organ and tissue donor.
Throughout the year, LifeBanc works to educate northeast Ohioans through multiple initiatives highlighting the critical shortage of organs and tissue for transplantation. These efforts are enhanced during National Donate Life month when are Americans are encouraged to become organ and tissue donors. This month-long call to action was established in 2003 and is a time of increased outreach efforts in hospitals, schools and Motor Vehicle Agencies. LifeBanc schedules programs and events designed to engage and educate about our life-saving message to a variety of audiences including media, corporations and community groups.
Right now, there are more than 105,000 men, women and children waiting for a life-saving organ transplant. Sadly, 18 individuals will die because an organ was not found in time.
You can help spread the word by encouraging your friends and family to become organ and tissue donors. Registering as a donor in Ohio is easy. Say “yes” to donation on your Ohio driver license or state ID when you first apply and each time you renew. Not visiting the BMV anytime soon...become a hero today by registering online.
