NATIONAL DONATE LIFE MONTH -TOPEKA, KS- TOPEKANS RUN FOR LIFE

video

With April being National Donate Life Month....Topekans gathered Saturday morning at Washburn University to run for organ donation.

Runners and walkers alike laced up their kicks to participate in Topeka's organ donor memorial run for life.

After 15 years ..this 10 and 2 mile race has got a stride for everyone.

Ray Gable from Midwest Transplant Network says, "Events like these highlight success of transplants and honors the donor families.... without them there is no life saving transplant."

There are close to 2,000 Kansans waiting on a life saving transplant and more than 100,000 people nationwide.

Most people are not against organ and tissue donation but Saturday more are being made aware of the opportunity to save a life.

Darla Rowe, a widow who's husband donated an organ says, "Organ transplants are vitally important one of the last gifts you can give in his case he gave in life and gave in death."

Proceeds from the run will go to the Washburn Running Club and the Topeka Organ Transplant Organization also known as TOTO...to help cover patients medical costs.

For more information visit www.mwtn.org to find out how you can join the Kansas or Missouri donor registry.
