National Donate Life Month 2010 – A Huge Success!

The Johns Hopkins Hospital raises the Donate Life flag in celebration of National Donate Life Month.
Wow! I can’t believe National Donate Life Month is behind us. It sure was a busy month for the teams here at The Living Legacy Foundation. From our calculations, LLF participated in 52 events in the community to raise awareness in April. For a month with only 30 days, to say we were busy, is a huge understatement. Here is a breakdown of the types of events we attended throughout the month:
- 25 donation information booths at partner hospitals
- 13 health fairs / presentations / special events
- 9 donation information booths and presentations at Maryland colleges and universities
- 2 presentations at faith based organizations
- 1 high school presentation
And we couldn’t have been at all these different events without the support of our faithful and amazing volunteers, which logged 118 volunteer hours in April alone! Way to go!
Also this April, The Living Legacy Foundation and Donate Life Maryland partnered to promote a new campaign, Flags Across Maryland. Maryland’s flag-flying campaign – the first in the state – is part of a national effort to bolster organ donor registries during National Donate Life Month. The goal of the campaign is to motivate Marylanders to register as a designated donor on the Maryland Donor Registry.
Maryland hospital’s whole- heartedly embraced this campaign. Twenty-six hospitals in LLF’s donor service area requested Donate Life flags, which were displayed at some point during the month. Three hospitals have even expressed interest in raising or displaying the flag after every donor to honor them and their family.
The MVA also got into the action, displaying the Donate Life flag throughout the month at many of the branches throughout the state.
April may be over; however, we are still busy promoting the Maryland Donor Registry and the importance of organ, eye and tissue donation. If you are interested in becoming a Donate Life Ambassador, please contact Latrice Price, LLF’s volunteer coordinator, at 410-242-7000 orlprice@thellf.org to find out more information about volunteer opportunities.
