DONATE LIFE ORGAN DONATION AWARENESS - PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA

PITTSBURGH -- Isaac Phipps didn't have much of a chance 10 years ago. He was only five months old when doctors noticed a heart murmur. "The doctors basically told us that they've done all they could do and the only thing left to do is pray," said Ben Phipps, Isaac's father. And that's what Ben and Melissa Phipps did. They prayed that their first born son would get the heart donation needed to save his life. It was 10 years ago this weekend their prayers were answered. "He was pretty much within a few days of passing away we just are really blessed and thank god that Isaac is here 10 years later," said Melissa, Isaac's mother. Saturday friends and family held this benefit in Pittsburg to spread the word about the importance of organ donation. "Their decision to be an organ and tissue donor and register that decision can impact 25 to 50 lives, just by signing up, and Isaac is living proof of that here today," said Brian Bush of the Illinois Secretary of State's Office. Isaac considers himself the luckiest kid on earth. His family hopes others will use their story of triumph as a chance to save more lives. "We just want people to see that life does go on and to give back to people when their family member passes, that people need organs," said Melissa. The family also raised money for the Ronald McDonald House Foundation during the ceremony.
