INTERNATIONAL ORGAN DONATION AWARENESS - BRITISH COLOMBIA, CANADA

DUST OFF YOUR WALKING SHOES
Source: North Bay News
By: Kate Adams

On September 18th 2010 in North Bay, kidney and organ donation awareness will be front and center, as the Kidney Foundation is pleased to once again be hosting the “Give the Gift of Life Walk”. The annual walkathon will be held in 27 communities across the province throughout the month of September. The 4th annual North Bay walk will be held at Lee Park and the Kate Pace Way on Saturday September 18th. Registration for the event will commence at 8am with the walk beginning at 9am. Prizes awarded for the top 2 people who fundraise the most money, and there will also be draw prizes for individuals who raise $100 and more.

The walks are extraordinary grass-roots, locally based events focused on uniting dialysis patients, transplant recipients, living donors, the medical and business communities, and the general public to celebrate life and to create lasting community advocacy and long-term support for the Foundation’s mission. This year, as a foundation we are anticipating over 2000 walkers and hope to raise $225,000.

Organ donation is a complex issue that affects thousands of Canadians. Each year, hundreds of people die because of a lack of organ and tissue donors while 4000 anxiously await the gift of life. This signature event provides us a tremendous opportunity to spread our organ donation message.

To register for the walk online visit www.kidney.ca/ontariowalk and click on North Bay. For pledge forms or for more information contact Andrew or Alice-Ann at 476-3715 or by email at hopkins_andrew@hotmail.com.
