INTERNATIONAL ORGAN DONATION AWARENESS - UNITED KINGDOM

Boy wanted to be a donor at eight and died a lifesaver

News Generic - Home News

A tragic teenager has helped save two people after telling his mum he wanted to be an organ donor when he was just eight.
Sam Kirk, 19, suffered a stroke six days after he came out of a coma on July 27 following a fight. Heartbroken mum Tracy Higginbottom switched off his life-support machine after doctors told her that he would be unable to do anything for himself.
And she said how something her son said to her when he was just a boy gave her the strength to make the decision. Tracy said: "Sam said last year he wanted to donate his organs, but it was something he wanted since eight. We were at the doctors when he told me. As we were leaving, he picked up a leaflet to fill in. He told me there and then he would donate if he died."
Tracy and husband Dave, from Mackworth, Derby, have been told his organs have given two patients a chance of life.
Sam suffered a head injury after being hit during a fight.
Tracy said: "We know the other lad and bear him no malice." Police have bailed an 18-year-old.
