Georgetown Hospital System Hosts Organ Donor Registry Drive

Georgetown Hospital System will offer organ donor registry drives at both Georgetown Memorial Hospital and Waccamaw Community Hospital on Wednesday, September 22 from 6-10 a.m. and 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

PRLog (Press Release) Sep 17, 2010 – Georgetown Hospital System will offer organ donor registry drives at both Georgetown Memorial Hospital and Waccamaw Community Hospital on Wednesday, September 22 from 6-10 a.m. and 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

The organ donation drives are part of a statewide initiative designed to build a larger organ donor base. The program, organized in South Carolina under the acronym, S.C.R.U.B.S. (South Carolina Registry United Business Support), is a collaborative effort by LifePoint Organ and Tissue Donation Services for South Carolina, Donate Life South Carolina, South Carolina Hospital Association, and Every Patient Counts. The goal of the program is to sign up 1.1 million registrants by November 11, 2011 at 11:00 a.m.

A volunteer team of GHS employees, senior leaders and physicians from both hospitals will be on-hand to answer questions about the registry and the program. Those interested can register using a web-based tool or a handwritten form. Prize drawings will also be held during the event. Even if you previously indicated a desire to be an organ donor by registering at the SC Department of Motor Vehicles, you must re-register and sign up with the new registry to ensure your organ donation wishes are met. Prior to the event, one can register online at www.Every11Minutes.org.
