Kidney Walk Celebrates Life And Raises Awareness
Thousands took a walk in downtown Columbus on a sunny, warm Sunday morning.
The walkers gathered at the Ohio Statehouse for the annual National Kidney Foundation's kidney walk.
It’s one of four held in the state.
The event raises money for the organization but also offers the chance to spread awareness of kidney disease, organ donation and to celebrate life.
"People have the opportunity to come and mingle. Some people who go to dialysis three days a week will have a chance to meet with other people who do the same,” said Dena Sico, Regional Development Manager for the National Kidney Foundation. “We also have an opportunity for our sponsors to be here and support their patients."
Thanks to the money raised through the walks, NKF is able to offer free early detection screenings for kidney disease and support research.
