JOONDALUP Health Campus nurses, staff, family and friends are fielding a team of 18 in this weekend’s Relay for Life in Joondalup – it will be the team’s third year in the Relay.

Called donate.organ.ok, the team’s twin aims are to raise money for the WA Cancer Council and to increase awareness of the need for more people to donate life-saving organs and tissue.

Team manager Belinda Goodrum said Australia had a very low percentage of organ donors.

“The Department of Health’s DonateLife in WA co-ordinates organ and tissue donor activities throughout WA, but the service desperately needs more donors,” she said.

“We hope we can encourage more people to register as donors. It’s simple to do and may save someone’s life.”

The team should be easily identified as some members will wear costumes to promote donor awareness.

For the third year running, team mascot Winnie will be on the field 24 hours acting as the team’s baton.

Anyone interested in learning more about donating organs should phone 9222 0222 or email donatelife@health.wa.gov.au.
