Task Force Public Awareness Organ Donation suggested approach to the organ they are killed in road accident donated to help patients who need transplants.
Its chairman, Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye (pictured) said the proposal was seen as a reasonable number of fatal accidents across the country were high, between 6,000 to 7,000 people a year.
He said it may be carried out by placing a counselor to negotiate with the heirs of the victim for permission.
''It can be seen in the few cases where an accident victim, the parents gave consent to donate his organs to help others after being approached and briefed by the relevant parties, including hospitals and counselors.
The action was necessary''because patients needing organ transplants is very high for patients suffering from renal failure alone is estimated to reach 11,000 people, "he said after launching Mobile Organ Performance at the state level today.
Also present were State Health Director, Dr. Nordiyaah Hassan and General Manager of the National Transplant Resource Centre, Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL), Datin Dr. Lela Yasmin.
Lam Thye said that, currently, only 147.831 people of Malaysia to donate an organ pledgers since organ donation awareness campaign implemented in 1997.
''The pledger is very small compared to around 28 million population of Malaysia is only 0:52 per cent. Out of the pledger, a total of 80.028 and 66.916 are women, men, "he said.
He was told, it also will find a variety of approaches to raise awareness and encourage people to become organ donors pledgers.
''We will focus on those aged between 21 to 40 years. Maybe we will be holding awareness campaigns at institutions of higher learning in the years ahead, "he said.
In the meantime, Leland said, some counselors have been placed in intensive care units and some other parts of the hospital.
''Maybe after this, the counselor will be housed in university hospitals to provide the services negotiations, "he said.
