Donor quilt on display in KY, Hopkins Co., Kentucky
By Chad Sewich
HOPKINS CO, KY (WFIE) - A quilt designed to honor the sacrifice of organ donors is on display at Trover Health System in Madisonville.
The Kentucky donor family quilt is one of six on tour to raise awareness about the importance of organ donation.
Each quilt square was created by the family of a donor, and is decorated with pictures and other keepsakes.
Officials with the donor group hope the quilt will encourage more people to consider organ donation.
Vanessa Dallas with the Kentucky Organ Donor Affiliates says, "The state you live in should have a donor registry. You can also sign up when you get your driver's license for the first time or when you renew your driver's license."
There are currently more than 100,000 patients in the U.S. waiting for an organ or tissue transplant, including more than 700 in Kentucky.
