Girl killed in car crash gives the gift of live - Woodlands, Texas

THE WOODLANDS, Texas—Inside Forest Park Cemetery in The Woodlands Sunday, the Bronstein’s were celebrating.
Their daughter, Kate was 19 years old when she died in a car accident three years ago. It was her organs that recently helped save the lives of two women.
"To us, that’s where Kate is today," said Kate’s father Dave Bronstein. "Kate is with them and lives through them."
Her mother, Pat Bronstein, still struggles with her youngest daughter’s death. But she knew donating her organs was the right thing to do.
"We felt like we needed to see Kate going forward and continuing in life," said Pat.
Maria Martinez received Kate’s liver and Stephanie Cart survived thanks to Kate’s right kidney.
Cart rejected other kidneys, but the gift from the Bronsteins was compatible.
"I think it’s Kate fighting for me to be able to keep her kidney," said Cart.
Every year, Kate’s family and friends gather at her grave in The Woodlands.
After meeting the women who carry a part of Kate, the annual reunion has grown to include their families as well.
The Bronsteins share their story with others in hopes of getting more people to become donors.
The family said they have no regrets about their decision to donate. Pat Bronstein said it’s what Kate would have wanted.
"She was always giving," said Kate’s mother. "She would give away anything. So, that’s how we decided. We knew that this was what she would want."
That’s why on the anniversary of her death, they’re celebrating Kate’s gift of life.
According to non-profit organization LifeGift, 10,000 people in Texas alone are currently waiting for an organ transplant.
There are three ways to register as an organ or tissue donor in the state of Texas. Potential donors can sign up at the DPS office, while renewing their vehicle registration, or they can also register online at www.donatelifetexas.org
