Gov. Jan Brewer: Ask the federal government for more money
Source: The Daily Column

Arizona Governor Jan Brewer has a proposal for those seeking funding for organ transplants: ask the federal government for more money.

The Republican governor, who continues to face criticism over health care cuts to the state’s health care system, said Tuesday that the cuts were the result of the state’s budget deficit.

Ms. Brewer continued her objection to calls for special session. A number of state Democrats have requested Ms. Brewer call a special session in order to present a proposal that could fund the program.

Democrats have also requested that Ms. Brewer tap discretionary federal stimulus funds in order to reinstate cuts for certain transplant coverage.

Democratic leaders contend that the funding would allow patients seeking treatment to have it until the legislature resumes in January.

Ms. Brewer rejected the compromise, saying the funds had already been allocated to a number of state projects
