Runners to jingle through downtown

Source: Nevada Appeal

The Fred & Ginger's Jingle Bell 5K begins 9 a.m. Saturday at the Governor's Mansion.

Today is the last day to register at TheRaceScene.com for $30. After today, the cost will be $35.

The last chance to register will be at the packet pick-up 5-8 p.m. Friday at CV Sports.

Participants will receive a long-sleeve, cotton T-shirt and jingle bells to tie to shoes for “jingling along” the course.

Coffee and hot cocoa will be served post-race at the Governor's Mansion.

All proceeds will benefit Donate Life of Northern Nevada to help promote organ donor awareness.

The race is a tribute to Ginger Blount, who died Nov. 29, 2008, at age 46 from a stroke. Her organs were donated and saved many lives.

“Fred” is the cartoon horse Ginger doodled and drew since she was a kid growing up with horses in Nevada.

Sponsors include Carson Medical Group, A-1 Radiator, Benson's Feed & Tack, Carson Tahoe Regional Healthcare, Active Chiropractic, CV Sports, Western Title, Greater Nevada Mortgage and Silver State Electric.
