DONATE LIFE ORGAN DONATION BLOG NOTE: NOW THIS IS AN AMAZING IDEA! HAS ANY OTHER MUNICIPALITY DONE A SIMILAR ORGAN DONATION DRIVE? I RECALL A CITY IN THE UNITED STATES PLACED DONOR REGISTRATION FORMS IN THEIR NEWSPAPER. MAY WE HEAR FROM YOU?
Dear Editor:
I was pleasantly surprised when I opened my latest electric bill from the City of New Westminster to find enclosed some information which encouraged individuals to consider registering as organ donors. This topic is especially relevant with the International Transplantation Society currently holding its 23rd congress in Vancouver.
There are 4,500 Canadians on transplant waiting lists, and 260 individuals die each year while awaiting transplants. It was noted in the city's flyer that 85 per cent of B.C. residents have intentions to register, but only 17 per cent have done so. I hope the good people of New Westminster will take note of the need and register their intentions. Organ donation is a gift of life.
Please take the time to register. Use the form provided by the city or go online at www.transplant.bc.ca.
