Krueger, a native of New Braunfels, is the only Texan to serve as U.S. congressman, Texas railroad commissioner, U.S. senator and U.S. ambassador.
Hagman will accept the award at a public dinner and gala at the New Braunfels Civic Center Feb. 19.
While Hagman played the role of J.R. Ewing on television for 13 years, equally significant is his role as philanthropist and champion of health issues.
For over a decade, Hagman served as chairperson of the American Cancer Society's Great American Smoke-Out.
After receiving a liver transplant in 1995 that saved his life, Hagman became the national spokesperson for the 1996, 1998, and 2000 U.S. Transplant Games presented by the National Kidney Foundation.
He received the foundation's Public Service Award for his efforts to heighten public awareness of the importance of organ donation, and has spent significant time both in the halls of Congress and nationwide advocating for these causes.
Hagman also serves on the Board of Directors Advisory Committee of Transplantation for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
In choosing Hagman, the Bob Krueger Public Service Award committee plans to donate a portion of the proceeds from the gala to the work of the National Kidney Foundation in the surrounding San Antonio area.
Another part of the event's proceeds will go to the National Kidney Foundation serving all of South Central Texas.
The gala will be held at 6 p.m. at the New Braunfels Civic Center.
Tickets are $65 per person, and can be purchased via PayPal at www.bobkruegeraward.com.
Checks (made out to Bob Krueger Public Service Award) will also be accepted. They should be sent to P.O. Box 310812, New Braunfels, TX 78131.
