Governor General launches Donate Life week, Australia

The Governor General, Quentin Bryce, has launched Donate Life week urging Australians to talk to their families about organ donation.

Donation rates in Australia reached a record high last year but still remain amongst the lowest in the world.

Around 40 per cent of Australians do not know the wishes of their loved ones and only a fifth of families have had the conversation.

Families can still prevent organ donations and fewer than 60 per cent currently give their approval.

Families of organ donors at the launch, urged others to talk about the subject.
