The heart of cyclist John Mauricio Castro Hidalgo, who was killed on Sunday morning, keeps on beating giving 18 year old Edier Jiménez Bonilla a new opportunity. The heart transplant was performed on Monday at the Calderón Guardia hospital.
Luis Paulino Hernández, the hospital's medical director, said the patient has accepted the organ and is off the respirator and breathing on his own, is now able to talk to her family.
Karla Campos, Edier's older sister, said "thank you to the young man who donated his organs, my brother is fine".
In addition to the heart, Hidalgo's organs - cornea, kidneys, liver and skin - have also helped others.
