Donate Life Pennsylvania and the Center for Organ Recovery & Education are asking Pennsylvanians to sign up to literally give a part of themselves to others.
The organizations are making a push this week to encourage people to become registered organ and tissue donors.
About 85 percent of the population supports organ and tissue donation, yet less than half of all eligible Pennsylvania residents sign up to become donors when they get their learner's permit, driver's license or identification cards, said Susan Stuart, president of O'Hara-based CORE.
In Pennsylvania, nearly 8,000 people are awaiting an organ transplant. To become a donor, visit www.donatelife-pa.org.
