Please give the gift of life

This is how you can be a hero!

The next time you are at the BMV renewing or getting your drivers license for the first time, just inform the person behind the counter that "You would like to register to be an organ donor."

I have a personal connection with organ donation.

My daughter, Betsy, gave the "Gift of Life" at age 23 and saved four lives. She passed away April 29, 2004 from a brain aneurysm. Her decision to be an organ donor will affect many generations to come. When Betsy applied for her driver's license she made the decision to help others. Although at the time, she didn't know that she would only be here for a short time. What a remarkable, caring and giving young woman Betsy was.

I am a registered organ and tissue donor. Are you?

Did you know that there are 110,000 people nationwide waiting for a life-saving transplant.

April is Donate Life Month. On April 2, there will be an event at Lifeline of Ohio, 770 Kinnear Road, Columbus, that will help spread awareness and the importance of organ, eye, and tissue donation. It a 24-hour vigil that honors donors, recipients, and those awaiting a second chance of life.

I don't think I can express in words what my daughter's gift means to me. My heart aches having her gone, but others are living because of her.

To read Betsy's story, learn more about the upcoming event, or to register to be an organ or tissue donor, visit lifelineofohio. org or call 800-525-5667.

Thank you to everyone that has made this lifesaving decision and to everyone that will register. It is the most ultimate gift.

God bless you.

Cindy (Kuba) Grose
