MYTHS and confusion over religion are adding to a drought in organ donations among black and Asian families.
One in four refuse to allow bodyparts to be used in life-saving transplants, says the NHS Blood and Transplant body. That compares to one in ten across the rest of the UK.
It means black and Asian patients spend up to three times longer waiting for a donor organ - an average of FIVE years.
Three people a day die because suitable kidneys, hearts, livers and so on can not be found in time. Hundreds more live in pain and uncertainty.
Researchers found myths surrounding different religions can cause bereaved familes to overrule their loved-one's dying wishes even when the deceased is on the donor register.
