Rotarians learn about organ donation awareness walk
by Ashley Knight | Fox 31, My Southwest GA

ALBANY, GA -- April is national "Give Life" month and an event coming up next month hopes to bring awareness to organ donations.

Carla Hawkins, a member of the organization "Life Link of Georgia" talked to Dougherty County Rotarians about an awareness walk April 16th at Riverfront Park downtown.

Hawkins says many people in southwest Georgia have been affected and received life-saving transplants.

“And then you have family members who have lost loved ones, but their loved one has given them the gift of life to someone, so this event is to really highlight and celebrate that wonderful event of life and giving life to others,” Said Hawkins.

There are almost 4,000 people in Georgia waiting for an organ or tissue transplant--60% are African Americans in need of kidney transplants.
