A special ceremony at St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans' French Quarter will honor organ donors.
The non-denominational event at 2 p.m. Sunday will recognize organ, tissue, and eye donors and the recipients. In addition to the service, there will be testimonials from donor families and recipients. A candle-lighting service will also be held.
The event was organized by "Donate Life Louisiana," a statewide group of organizations working to increase the number of registered donors.
IT JUST DOES NOT SEEM ENOUGH CHURCHES ARE RECOGNIZING THE IMPORTANT OF ORGAN DONATION. WHILE MANY OF THEIR PARISHIONERS ARE MORE THAN LIKELY ON THE TRANSPLANT WAIT LIST OR HAVE RECEIVED THE GIFT OF LIFE, I WONDER IF RELIGION UNDERSTANDS THEIR ROLE IN ENCOURAGING PEOPLE TO REGISTER AS A DONOR.
