Car Coupons Sold For Organ Donation
Booklets Available For $3 At Jiffy Lube Through End Of April

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Coupon booklets are being sold for $3 at Jiffy Lube in an effort to raise awareness about organ donation.

The booklets have about $50 in savings for car work and are available through the end of the month, but the effects of buying one can be long-lasting.

Take Matt Calimano, for example, who was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease and desperately needed a liver transplant. It took six months before Mayo Clinic secured one.

"The surgery is a piece of cake compared to the waiting because you never know when you're going to get the phone call. You never know if you're going to get sicker while you're waiting," Calimano said. "(Now) I have energy, my coloring is better since I was jaundiced because of the liver."

He's fortunate. Many patients never receive the life-saving transplant they've been waiting for.

"There are over 110,000 people today waiting for a second chance at life," said Amy Reese, of LifeQuest Organ Recovery Services.

Reese said many people are OK with donating their organs.

"It's just that they don't register themselves, and every state has their own registry," she said.

She hopes the money raised at Jiffy Lubes across the U.S. will help educate people about organ donation and ultimately increase the number of donors.
