Car show highlights need for organ donors
Source: Fox 34 News KJTV, Lubbock Texas

In this country more than 110,000 Americans are waiting for a lifesaving transplant. So what do cars and medicine have in common?

At the Annual Toadbucket Nationals Motorcycle and Car Show, the parents of Christopher "Toadbucket" Barnes are using the appeal of souped-up cars and bikes to draw awareness to the importance of transplants.

Their son saved the lives of four people through the gifts of organ and tissue donation.

Jody Barnes says everyone and anyone should consider being an organ donor. He says he never thought twice about it for his own son.

"It's a way to help other people and your family member does continue to live on through other people. And as we did get to meet one of the organ recipients, you get a chance to further your family, see what a difference it can make in some body's life. It's a pretty and powerful thing," Barnes said.

Held at the South Plains Mall, the Toadbucket Nationals Motorcycle and Car Show is in its 4th year.
