HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (KABC) -- A family waiting for a liver transplant for their young daughter emphasized the importance of being an organ donor Monday.
Children's Hospital Los Angeles along with the state's organ and tissue registry celebrated National Donate Life Month with a flag raising ceremony.
Officials said the flag is a symbol of gratitude for donors as well as an image of support for transplant candidates.
Also on hand was 9-month-old Eliana Quezada. She is awaiting a liver transplant at the hospital.
"Before this experience I never thought there was kids in this hospital waiting for organs," said mother Cindy Aguilar. "And now I know how important it is to donate."
Officials said in the last five years, eight million Californians have registered to be organ donors.
