Free 5K walk to honor Donate for Life Month

LifeLink of Georgia will acknowledge all involved in the awareness of organ and tissue transplant.

ALBANY — LifeLink of Georgia is inviting the public to join in a free 5K event at 9 a.m. on Saturday at Riverfront Park. “Walk for Life” will be held to recognize organ and tissue transplant recipients, organ donor family members and others in support and to highlight a need for more continued lifesaving through organ, eye, and tissue donation and transplantation.

Registration will begin at 9 a.m.
A warm-up along with food and bottled water will be provided.
The African-American community is uniquely impacted by the need for kidney transplantation. A primary reason is disease processes resulting in kidney failure, such as diabetes and high blood pressure.
April is designated Donate for Life Month, a time to honor and recognize the spirit of those individuals who make transplants possible.

“Walk for Life serves as a forum to educate the Albany community about the importance of organ and tissue donation,” said Carla Hawkins, LifeLink’s Multicultural Donation Education Program Specialist.
