Free haircuts in Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo and Muskegon reward for those who agree to be organ donors

Free haircuts will be offered Wednesday in Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo and Muskegon at Sport Clips Haircuts to anyone willing to be an organ donor.

Sport Clips owner Stacey Patulski, the father of an 8-year-old with a rare liver disease, is offering the free trims as part of National Donate Life Month to encourage people to register as organ donors. His daughter Lauren was born with biliary atresia and will need a liver transplant.

Those interested will be able to sign up as donors at the events.

In Michigan, it takes more than just a signature on the back of a driver's license to register. Residents must join the Michigan Organ Donor Registry to receive a red heart emblem for the front of their license, either by visiting a Secretary of State branch office or registering online.

Free haircuts will be 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday at all six Sport Clips locations in the state:

• 2753 E. Beltine Ave, Grand Rapids
• 5791 Harvey St., Muskegon
• 4365 Canal St., Grandville
• 355 Wilson Ave. NW, Standale
• 7101 S. Westnedge Ave., Portage
• 5304 West Main St., Kalamazoo
