Donate Life Blood, Marrow, Organ and Tissue Donor Registration Drive

May 4, 2011 2:00 pm
First Presbyterian Church, 221 North Main Belvidere, IL

On Wednesday, May 4th, from 2-6pm, First Presbyterian Church in Belvidere will partner with area churches, the Rock River Valley Blood Center, Be the Match Marrow Registry, Donate Life Illinois and Girl Scout Troops 3035, 3094, 3149, 3152, and 3337 to host a Donate Life blood, marrow, and organ & tissue donor registration drive. Diana Ward, of Belvidere, received a lifesaving kidney transplant 13 years ago, but after an illness, the kidney failed. She has been on the organ transplant waiting list for over 3 years. She learned that a Donate Life Girl Scout Patch was available and thought this would be a good lesson for the girls and a wonderful community outreach event.

To earn the patch, the girls learned facts about organ and tissue donation. They made green “Donor Awareness” ribbons and posters to promote the drive and made yard signs promoting that April is “Donate Life Month”. Each girl also set a personal goal to register people to be organ & tissue donors.
There are many people who need blood transfusions, organ transplants, tissue transplants, and marrow cell transplants, but they can only benefit from this medical technology if there are generous donors who want to help.

Come on out May 4th to donate blood and join the Be the Match marrow registry and the Illinois Secretary of State’s Organ and Tissue Donor Registry. “To the world you may be only one person, but to one person you may be the world.”

WE CONSTANTLY ARE ASKED " WHAT CAN I (WE) DO TO HELP.  THERE ARE MANY EXAMPLES CONTAINED IN THE BLOG, THIS IS ONE OF THEM.
