Who do I date? Do I donate my organs?
Source: CTDN

Can someone living donate an organ? How old do you have to be to donate an organ? Asking questions was part of the presentation to a Fremont High School physiology class Thursday in Sunnyvale.

All are questions high school student ponder. Helping them to answer the last one is the mission of the California Transplant Donor Network's High School Education Campaign.

Having to decide the answer isn't just "something to talk about" for students. If they get driver's licenses, they will be asked if they wish to sign up as a organ and tissue donor.

Presentations like that Thursday at Fremont High School in Sunnyvale helps them know the facts before they are asked the question. Many schools, like Fremont adminstrators did, support visits by CTDN representatives and volunteers. Others take the material provided by Donate LIFE California, the organization which administers the state donor registry, and have teachers present information.

At the Thursday presentation were (from left) student teacher
Sarah MacWay, CTDN Community Development Liaison
Noel Sanchez and Phyllis Monroe of San Jose, a Donate
LIFE Ambassador who when her daughter
dies suddently, agreed to donate her organs and tissues.

CTDN plans to have information available in some form to 100 new schools before year's end. It serves Northern and Central California. For information on having a school receive information or a visit from CTDN on organ and tissue donation: info@ctdn.org
