Wednesday was an historic day for Ohio and for the more than 3,400 residents waiting for a life saving transplant. At 8 a.m. we launched the Ohio Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Caucus in the Ohio House of Representatives! The goal of the caucus is to better educate state representatives about organ and tissue donation-related issues, which will support statewide efforts to register donors and save lives.

Many thanks go out to House Caucus Co-Chairs, Rep. Terry Johnson, DO and Rep. Lorraine Fende, for recognizing the value this caucus can bring to their colleagues and the State of Ohio. Our speakers, Dr. Robert Higgins, The Ohio State University Comprehensive Transplant Center, Dawn and Asia Werner, heart recipient, Mark and Marsha Burleson, donor parents, Gordon Bowen, Lifebanc (Cleveland), and Barry Massa, LifeCenter Organ Donor Network (Cincinnati) helped deliver a bold call to action to place Ohio 1st in the nation to save and restore life through organ, tissue and eye donation.
A real thrill for the day was the opportunity to introduce Dawn and Asia to the House Committee on Health and Aging during their morning meeting and to recognize the Burleson and Werner families on the House floor during the full house session! Thank you, Rep. Lynn Wachtmann, for taking the time to recognize these special individuals and for continuing to champion organ and tissue donation.
Next Stop… The Ohio Senate!
