A film about the making of Maria Caruso's 2010 ballet "Heart (function vs. emotion)" is a finalist in the Donate Life Film Festival, in Hollywood. The festival starts Wednesday, when the film will be viewable online at www.donatelifehollywood.org. Winners will be screened at the festival.
Former Pittsburgher David Urbanic's film "Function vs. Emotion" traces Caruso's creation of the ballet, which was inspired by seeing two heart-transplant operations and spending time with patients with advanced heart disease at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
Caruso is founding executive and artistic director of Bodiography Contemporary Ballet and director of the LaRoche College Dance Department.
The Donate Life Film Festival is part of Donate Life America, a nonprofit organization that promotes organ, eye and tissue donation.
