Methodist University Hospital in Memphis honored for transplant program

Methodist University Hospital has received its first Bronze Organ Donation Medal of Honor from the Mid-South Transplant Foundation.

The award recognized Methodist’s efforts in organ donation, which included sustaining a 75 percent donation rate of eligible donors in 2010.

Methodist and 306 other U.S. hospitals were recognized for their efforts recently by the National Learning Congress on Organ Donation and Transplantation by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

More than 111,000 people are now on the national waiting list for an organ transplant. Eighteen of those die each day due to the lack of organs.
