THIS month Kevin Green will bowl, bat, throw, run, swim, hit and spike for his country.

Four years ago Mr Green could not summon the energy for any sport but this month the 46-year-old will compete in six events at the World Transplant Games.

The Greensborough resident has been selected to represent Australia in golf, ten-pin bowling, discus, volleyball, the 100m track and 50m freestyle swimming relays at the 2011 Games in Sweden from June 17-24.

He will then tour England with the Australian transplant cricket team.

Mr Green, who had a kidney transplant in 2007 after eight years on dialysis, said he was making the most of a second chance.

“The staff at North West Dialysis Service were just fantastic but my life was not good at all,” he said.

Life is now “totally different”. He has the energy to coach basketball and football, co-ordinate Auskick and umpire in the Northern Football League.

Mr Green said the Games and cricket tour were a fantastic opportunities to promote the benefits of organ donation.
