West Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - The family of a West Fargo boy who died after a pick-up truck struck him near his home, says he will now live on in the lives of many. 7-year old Michael Fetzer will be remembered at a special service Thursday. He died Friday at a trauma center in the Twin Cities, from injuries he received in that accident.
“We are still in the hurting phase.”
There is still un-imaginable grief that pours from the hearts of Jeff and Bobbi Fetzer.
“I did not want to let go.”
This after the tragic loss of their 7-year old son Michael.
“If you met him, you liked him right away.”
The type of child, a parent can describe in the most memorable way.
BOBBI FETZER - Michael's Mom: “A happy go lucky little guy. I have some very great memories of him and they are my memories.”
JEFF FETZER - Michael's Dad: “He was a very energetic kid. We thought he was hyper, but he was the perfect kid. The nicest kid you ever would meet. Everybody, every teacher we talked to said he was the nicest kid.”
Michael's injuries so severe, he was airlifted to the Twin Cities, but the head trauma was too much. Hope was dashed, but this couple made what they called the easiest decision of all, once they knew time had run out for their son.
“I wanted everything that would be viable so he could live on thru others.”
His heart, kidneys, liver and more all would save the lives of children and adults. Those who needed this gift to live.
“He is going to live on in the lives of many people. Their families their friends, two little kids are involved in the donation. One may grow up to be president.”
Rather ironic that Michael attended South Elementary in West Fargo, where just days ago, he and his classmates raised money for Alexa's Hope, which focuses on organ donation awareness and education. Tonight, the hope for a miracle can be found in a little boy, who families are now thanking for that once chance they were all clinging to.
The family is having what they call: A celebration of Michael's life this Thursday at Faith Lutheran in West Fargo. Meantime, a special benefit account has been set up at all Wells Fargo Banks.
