SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- A Bay Area teenager got a thrill of a lifetime at Wednesday's San Francisco Giants game.
Alfonso Garcia, 17, threw out the first pitch at AT&T Park before the game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Just last year, Garcia was given only 48-hours to live because of a rare hereditary disease, called Wilson's disease, that destroyed his liver.
Thankfully, he was able to get an emergency transplant when another young man lost his life.
"It's a dilemma that goes on in my mind today, that some people have to die in order to get a transplant," said Garcia.
Alfonso is now encouraging people to sign up for the California Transplant Donor Network. This is the 14th year that the Giants have hosted an organ donation awareness day.
